Volvo has announced, in a very bold statement, that every car they manufacture from 2019 on will have an electric motor. The car producer has officially decided that internal combustion engines are no longer cool. By embracing this new technology, Chinese-owned Volvo has become the first traditional carmaker to be one hundred percent on board with pure electric and hybrid production.
Between 2019 and 2021, Volvo plans on releasing five fully electric cars. Only three of them will be carrying the Volvo brand, as the other two vehicles will come from the company's higher-end unit, Polestar. The cars remaining in the Volvo army will be either a plug-in hybrid car, or a mild hybrid which will combine a gas engine and battery to function.
So, while the cars after 2019 won't be purely running off of an internal combustion engine, some of their vehicles will still have them. The main difference is that these engines will be coupled with a battery, having a slightly more "green" impact on the environment. Good for you Volvo! I hope this doesn't blow up in your face, and I hope the world has way more charging stations by then!
