The only thing I like reporting on more than irrationally expensive cars is reasonably priced ones. Volkswagen has announced a price drop for the Tiguan SUV. This was reportedly in an effort to compete with rivals.

Car dealers were informed of the change on Thursday. The base S model received a $600 drop, while the SE and SEL trim were cut down by $2,180 and $1,460 respectively. The SEL Premium will not be receiving any changes, alas.

The base 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan will start at $25,495. While that's not bad, it still is more expensive than the base models for competition, like a 2018 Honda CR-V for example. SE models begin at $27,650. These give the car a bit more pizzazz with features like a blind spot monitor, touchscreen, and leatherette seating.

The SEL now sits at $31,990. That extra cash nets you navigation, adaptive cruise control, and remote starting. The same-priced SEL Premium costs $37,150. The large price is understandable, given the leather seats, LED headlights, and the VW Digital Cockpit instrument display.

A Volkswagen SUV has always been a bit harder on the wallet, a common trend they've developed over time. It's good to see that they are becoming a bit more in line with cheaper alternatives, even if only a little.
