An SUV record has just been broken by a very surprising car. The Toyota Land Cruiser. However, this is not your standard Land Cruiser, which is why Toyota has cleverly titled it the Land Speed Cruiser. The stock 381 horsepower engine was bumped up every so slightly to around 2000 hp and minor tweaks were scattered around under the hood. Piston upgrades, the eight-speed automatic transmission was replaced with an ATI racing transmission, and the frame was narrowed three inches.
This narrower frame allowed for the Land Speed Cruiser to run on Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, while also making the vehicle more aerodynamic. This mutated monster was able to hit 230 MPH, beating the previous record of 187. That's quite a landslide victory that Toyota can proudly take home, but don't expect this in your stock Land Cruiser. That bad boy will probably hit 130 mph, unless you plan on putting in a new engine that's about five times stronger than the base engine.
The record was broken at the Mojave Air and Space Port in Mojave, California, and the vehicle was being driven by former Toyota NASCAR racer, Carl Edwards.
