Sure, cars built out of Lego bricks are cool. But they aren't "gold and silver with diamonds encrusted throughout" cool. An honor like that is reserved only for professional jeweler Russell Lord.

Lord has presented his latest creation, a 1:25 scale model of a Ford Escort made entirely from gold, silver, diamonds, and other gemstones. Lord has not only worked with jewelry for decades but is a prominent Escort owner, having owned 55 real-life models throughout his life. The miniature model is based on the second gen Escort, which was only built from 1974 to 1981. According to Lord, the specific model was the one that Ari Vatanen, the Finnish rally driver, drove.

The model's main body is built from silver, with gold used for the brakes, spoiler, wheels, and hood hinges. The front grille is made from white gold. Gemstones act as the lighting system, with 72-point diamonds for headlights and orange sapphires for the turn indicators. The rear brakes are rubies. For an accurate feeling, the windows are made from real glass.

This wouldn't take thousands of hours to make though. Under the hood is where much of that time was spent. The engine compartment features spinning pulleys, gear selectors, and a number of other parts made from diamonds, platinum, and other precious metals.

Despite the years of effort and sentimental value, Lord doesn't intend to keep the model for himself. Instead, it will be auctioned off online at TheMarket on May 2. Considering the materials alone cost around $100,000, we expect this bad boy to sell for a VERY pretty penny.
