When reading about all of the latest in fast, expensive, and otherwise fantastical cars, it's easy to forget about the average car. Or in this case, the top five most average cars of 2018. With second-quarter having concluded, we get the official numbers on the top five best selling sedans. We bet you won't be surprised.

In fifth place is the Nissan Altima, which sold 123,792 units. The vehicle experienced a sharp dip in sales, decreasing 15 percent in the first half of the year. Despite this, it still managed a place in the leaderboards, showing that it isn't a bad car after all.

In fourth comes the Hona Accord at 138,290 units. You might have assumed this would be number one. The Accord is the most commonly joked about car in the industry because it seems like everyone and their grandmother owns one. They're also known for having a long lifetime, which may explain why there weren't more sales. Why by a new one when your 2008 Accord runs fine?

In third place, we see the Toyota Corolla at 161,462 units. This time-tested sedan has been around for over 50 years. It's solidified its reputation as a reliable vehicle in this time. The Corolla: When you don't want an Accord.

In second place is the Honda Civic at 176,242 units. Now if I'm being honest, I can't really tell the difference between a Civic and an Accord. While the Civic Sport certainly has some visually notable features, the specs have always been remarkably similar to me. But that difference must exist, as it's sold a fair bit more than the Accord.

In a grand first place is the Toyota Camry at 178,795 units. Eight generations in so far, the Camry is a wonderful mix of classic quality and modern efficiency. The new TNGA platform makes it a smoother ride than others, and more worth your time and money. In this automaker battle, it seems Toyota reigns supreme.

It's important to note that this is specifically for sedans. The SUV and crossover have been increasingly more popular over the last few years. And we see that with the Nissan Rogue, which sold 215,202 units so far. Even more than that is in the Truck category, where the Ford F-Series sold 451,138 units.
