Ford has been tracking sales for a long time, and the best selling police car in the U.S. has dramatically changed. The majority of cops are now rolling around in modified Ford Explorers. Making up 51% of overall police vehicle sales for March, the Interceptor SUV offers much more than the old Crown Vics ever could.
The car can go over 100 miles per hour, so if you're planning on engaging in a police chase anytime soon, I would reconsider for numerous reasons. In addition to the SUV, they are also going to be offering a hybrid sedan option, which will save thousands for police departments annually.
This was pretty crazy news to me. I had assumed that the majority had swapped to the modded Explorer a long time ago, seeing as how my town got them around 2013. I've seen nothing but Explorers with police for a long time. I was actually planning on buying an Explorer, but ended up changing my mind, seeing as how everybody around me would constantly be going 5 miles under the speed limit in case I was an officer.
I think the cars are great, but their usage in the police force has pretty much ruined the Explorer for us civilians.
