The previously reported Hennessey Venom F5 released recently. It's primary pitch centered around its capabilities to reach speeds of over 300 mph. This prompted a group of Koenigsegg drivers to meet up and organize their own test, in an effort to beat even 300 mph -- and they were close.

With 2 runs, a Koenigsegg Agera RS managed to reach speeds of 277.9 mph. This exceeds the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport's record speed of 267.855 mph, set in 2010.

Koenigsegg owners Jeffrey Cheng, Mark Stidham, and John Morris were the drivers behind this event. They closed off a 12 mile stretch of road from Nevada State Route 160. Christian von Koenigsegg, the founder, made his attendance as well, alongside test driver Niklas Lilja to operate the new 1,360-hp, 1,011-lb-ft Agera RS belonging to Stidham.

On the first run, the Agera RS manages to hit 284 mph (which is verified by two RaceLogic Vbox data loggers), unfortunately, it could only reach 277.2 mph on the second run, averaging out to 277.9 mph. Due to the recording and testing methods, this run is eligible for the Guinness World Records. With validation by the organization of course. Hennessey will be performing their own trials with the Venom F5 in 2020, and Bugatti with the Veyron next year. For now, Koenigsegg looks to be the king of the road.
