The Ford Taurus is a classic vehicle. Fairly priced, it provided valuable transportation for many average families in America since 1985. But market trends change and all projects have to end one day, at least in the United States.
Ford announced a while back that the redesigned Taurus would only be releasing in China. This was largely due to the country's retained interest in sedans and America's preference for crossovers. On Friday, the last Taurus model was produced and rolled off the Chicago Assembly plant.
The plant has built over 8 million models of the plant, which was producing Tauruses for 34 years without stopping (not including the small pause in production in 2006). While this is sad news for the car model, this isn't a danger to the assembly workers. The Chicago plant still produces the Ford Explorer and the automaker will be hiring on 500 more workers to start production of the Lincoln Aviator.
Here's a fun fact for Ford fans. The first generation Taurus released on December 26, 1985, making the model's zodiac sign Capricorn instead of Taurus.
