Normally you don't see cars driving around that have three exhaust tips. Well, the Honda Civic Type R most definitely has all three, and it's for a good reason. As you can see from the picture above, there are two larger pipes that hold onto spots at the end, with one smaller tip in the middle. This design allows for a unique sound experience when driving the vehicle.

The two outer pipes are large mufflers, while the center pipe leads right into a resonator. This allows for the car to be much quieter when cruising at high speeds. Cars with this kind of output tend to get rather noisy on the highway, even if they're just maintaining their current speed. With this design, highway cruising will be nice and quiet, but your acceleration will still be very aggressive.

When traveling at lower speeds, the car is able to get very loud and produce that low rumble that we all love. When the car reaches a high speed, the exhaust flowing through the resonator hits a resonant frequency and fills with air. The air pressure caused by this method then causes back pressure to redirect exhaust to the larger, quieter mufflers.
