The Bugatti Chiron is a very interesting vehicle to say the least. With a limiter, the car can reach up to 261 miles per hour, and does so fairly easily. The odd thing is, the limiter cannot be removed right now. While it isn't physically impossible to remove the limiter, it is impossible to move at speeds past the 261 cap.
The Veyron was able to hit 267.8 without a limiter on it back in 2013. The Chiron can definitely move faster, but by how much? At its full potential, it might be able to go over 300 MPH, but it can't be tested right now because of the tires. While there are many great tire manufacturers out there, none of them have made tires that can withstand the g-forces associated with going 300 miles per hour.
As the car accelerates past 261, the force on the tires increases exponentially. If you blow a tire going 300, good luck. Odds are, at 300 mph, you're going to blow all four at the same time and won't even have the time to see your life flash before your eyes. Understandably, they don't want to test the unlimited speed just yet. Bugatti has said that they expect to test it in 2018, but that has not yet been confirmed and we're still waiting on tires that can handle the speed.
Eh. Top speed doesn't really matter anyway. It's all for bragging rights. Actually, that's all Bugattis are. Bragging rights.
