The Boring Company, the Tesla-adjacent construction company, is showing off just how fast their high-speed tunnels can be when compared to surface driving. It almost seems like a celebration, since the company recently secured a Las Vegas contract.
The company posted a video on Friday. The video shows a driver-cam feed of two vehicles at the same time. They are both tasked with reaching an end location. It's a race, essentially. One of the vehicles took the standard route, while the other took one of the Boring Company tunnels.

As you can guess, the tunnel path was significantly faster, taking about a minute and a half and reaching max speeds of 127 mph. The surface driver took over 4 and a half minutes.
As nice as it seems, there's probably a few complications with it. Las Vegas will know soon enough. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Board of Directors recently approved a contract with the Boring Company to build a tunnel loop under the Convention Center. This tunnel will connect the center's New Exhibit Hall with the rest of the campus. Intended for shuttling pedestrians, it will reduce the current 15-minute walk between locations to less than a minute.
The Boring Company has until January 2021 to complete the loop, so they'll be pretty busy for the next several months. The success of this tunnel will be integral to the societal acceptance of a hyperloop tunnel system in the future.
