"We’re famous for breaking records and our latest engine, the Aston Martin Valkyrie 6.5-litre V-12, will be the world’s most powerful naturally aspirated road engine with 1,130 bhp," stated Cosworth in a tweet.
According to aerodynamicist Adrian Newey, choosing the V12 over the V6 engine was due to overall weight considerations. The V12 engine offered greater balance and structural mounting than the 6. These benefits "outweighed" the extra heft the engine has. When you consider all of the additional plumbing and intercoolers, the weight isn't as different as you'd think.
A vehicle of such prowess doesn't come cheap. The 1,000+ hp vehicle will cost an outlandish $2.6 million. Aston Martin plans on building a limited 175 examples, with 25 designated for the AMR Pro variation. Don't go pulling your wallet out just yet, all 175 examples have already been called for.
