Tesla normally has a production problem. They simply could not produce enough cars as fast as they were selling. At least in America. Tesla sales in China have dropped by a hefty 70 percent as the US-China trade war continues.

According to a report on Reuters, the electric automaker sold as few as 211 cars in China last October. They stated that these difficulties are due to the recent tariff hikes on auto imports since all Chinese Tesla models are imported from the states.

The most recent change shifted import rates on American automobiles to 40 percent. Meaning a $46,000 Tesla Model 3 would cost around $64,400 in China.

Tesla also is in the works for their own mega factory in the eastern country. If and when this is completed, they can avoid having to charge the heavy tariff costs. But it will be many years at the least before the said factory is finished and producing cars.
