In Phoenix last week a police motorcycle was struck by a Tesla Model X that was being used in autopilot. The officer and the driver of the Tesla were exiting the freeway when the police motorcycle stopped at a stoplight. The Tesla was following behind, and after a brief stop, slowly began to creep forward. The officer got off of his motorcycle as the Tesla crept closer and eventually collided with the fallen motorcycle.

The Model X was moving at roughly three miles per hour and the driver informed police that the car was being run in autopilot mode at the time of the accident. Since the collision was at such a low speed, police dropped the investigation. There was no harm to the drivers or their vehicles and no citations were issued.

Though the police have not released the name of the Tesla driver or the officer involved in the accident, Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Alan Pfohl said that the accident was basically just a tap and under other circumstances, it would not have even been deemed an accident. It was not a reportable collision and the only reason police took time to investigate the little bump was due to the fact that an on-duty officer was involved.
