The tweets began with a confirmation that the vehicle would debut at the Tesla design studio in Los Angeles on March 14. Those fortunate enough to be invited to the event will have the opportunity to ride in the vehicle, as well.
Musk stated that detailed pricing and spec information will be shown at the event, but was able to offer an estimate for now.
"Model Y, being an SUV, is about 10% bigger than Model 3, so will cost about 10% more & have slightly less range for same battery"
With the Model 3 currently at $36,000, we could be looking at around $40,000 for the model Y.
The Model Y will most likely be produced at somewhere other than the Fremont, California, Tesla plant. The Fremont plant is currently at production capacity, building the Model S, Model X, and Model 3 already. Instead, it will likely be produced at the Nevada plant, which only builds batteries and Model 3 components currently.
Mixed within all this information, Musk revealed that the new V3.0 Supercharger stations will open to the public on Wednesday, though he did not disclose where. These stations will be faster than the standard stations, pushing between 200 and 250 kilowatts instead of 145.
