Not all automobiles are made with millions in funding. Sometimes they need help establishing themselves before they can achieve production. A good example of this is the Huet Brothers and their upcoming coupe. And what a better way to build finances than by selling watches?
The Huet Brothers, and automotive company formed by brothers Paul and Tino Huet, announced their plans to produce a modern coupe with sports performance and retro stylings back in 2012. Based around the same drivetrain as a Mazda MX-5 Miata, it featured lightweight carbon fiber and 248 horsepower.
The problem? They need more funding to finish the first prototype. The solution? Kickstarter. The team has announced a new Kickstarter campaign to help get the wheels on the ground. With a month left and a total goal of $115,000, they're already halfway there to completion.
Those unfamiliar with Kickstarter and the pledge system may not know this, but often times a campaign will come with rewards for donating a certain a certain teir of money. While usually it's a copy of the product in question, that's less viable for the Huet Brothers Coupe. Instead, they're offering a Swiss-made watch.
The official name for the watch is the Huet Brothers Benefactor Chronograph. By pledging around $340 dollars, Kickstarter backers will be given the watch in the mail. It comes in Classic and Sport designs, is waterproof up to 100 meters, and comes with a ten-year warranty. If you opt for the $650 pledge tier, you'll receive two watches.
If you'd rather just get the car itself, Huet Brothers are taking pre-orders now. So far, about 27 orders have already been secured. Though the company reports a need for 26 more orders before production in the EU can begin.
