The Honda Passport was due back any day now. While this was initially just built on faith, recent reports have provided some additional information about the two-row crossover. The Passport is expected to be somewhere in between the CR-V and the Pilot, making it more competitively viable with vehicles like the Ford Edge.
According to inside sources, Honda plans to show off the new Passport this November at a Honda dealer meeting, with an expected sale time frame of early 2019. They also stated that there is a likely chance of the vehicle appearing at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. If you were to ask a Honda representative, however, they would tell you that the automaker has yet to confirm anything.
Born in 1994 as a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo, we haven't seen a new Passport since 2002. The vehicle is expected to utilize the Pilot's platform, giving reason to believe it will be produced out of Honda’s Lincoln, Alabama plant, which produces the Pilot, Ridgeline, and Odyssey.
Assuming that production of the new Passport is true, that will make it the fourth crossover lineup option by Honda. This will allow for more options in the U.S. market, which has been showing an increased interest in utility vehicles like SUVs, trucks, and crossovers.
I'm all for more Honda options, that's for sure. Though pricing will no doubt be a large factor in this, not that it has been a problem with other Honda vehicles.
