The new V90 Cross Country wagon is aimed at capturing the North American market, and to make this happen, Volvo has decided to offer a regular model without Cross Country bits.
But if you thought you could just get the parts, think again. Customers will need to special-order them. AutoWeek even cracked a funny joke, saying:
"You'll either need to special-order one or travel all the way to the factory in Gotheburg, Sweden to pick one up (we recommend the latter because it includes airfare and a factory tour."
Let's Talk Money
But realistically, how much will this all cost and save you overall? The V90 T5 R-Design starts at $50,945, but the V90 Cross Country starts at $56,295. That's a $5,350 savings. Overall, in the grand scheme of things, sacrificing Cross Country parts for a little over 5 grand seems pointless.
To drive the point further...
Specs
The Cross Country is 2.6 inches higher than the standard V90. The wheel arches and lower body are edged in plastic, while the lower fascia and rear bumper are redesigned. The window-surround molding is black, and the 19-inch wheels are model-specific.
Meanwhile the V90 has been called the most eye-catching member of the 90-series lineup. It features five-spoke wheels a slightly different front grille and an interior that will have you feeling classy and cool, despite driving a glorified station wagon.
The Verdict
If you absolutely need the Cross Country version of the V90, you're going to shell out a little over 5 grand more than drivers falling over the T5 R-Design. However it is a matter of personal taste. Both models have style. It's just a matter of finding your style.
