At one point, Royal Purple Raceway was known as Houston Raceway Park. I used to go there and live my life one-quarter mile at a time. This was back in the day when I had my 2002 Mustang GT. The stands always had people in them and the parking lot was always full on Friday nights. However, it didn’t look quite like this. There is of course flood damage in the Houston area, but they have to move all of those vehicles somewhere.
Matt sent me a message on Facebook linking me here. I researched it some, and found a link on Jalopnik. I had a lot of good memories here, and my mother works pretty close to Baytown in Pasadena. She is a lab manager at one of the Bio-Diesel plants down there. She says they are still working on getting everything up and running. It just breaks my heart to look at some of these photographs and knowing that these vehicles were some people’s pride and joys. Who knows, maybe there are some cool cars that have met an uncool fate.
