If you've driven your own car, then you're familiar with the assaulting sound of brake squeal. The sound, caused by the pressure between brake pads and their associated rotors, embarrasses some and annoys most. But according to Porsche, it's completely normal.
The automaker recently released an informational video that goes into detail about brakes, their squealing, and why it happens. When energy is converted, it converts into a number of different forms. When a vehicle's brakes create friction and heat, the energy is converted into vibrations that are amplified by the unique shape of the wheel rotor. This is a larger problem with Porsche vehicles since they use larger than average brake pads.
Besides that, the video continues on to reassure Porshe owners that despite the sound, their vehicles' have fantastic brake systems and that the noise is not an indicator of underlying issues.
So if you're car squeals some when you brake, odds are you're ok. Checking to make sure everything is in order is never a bad idea, but don't be left concerned if nothing comes up out of place.
