Porsche has been debating the future of diesel engines for a while now. With their new lineup on the horizon, and electric making a strong debut, the automaker has been questioning the viability of the diesel engine. Now they're standing firm in the push away from it.
Porsche's last 2 diesel vehicles, the Macan S Diesel and the Panamera 4S Diesel, are now off the market. This shouldn't impact sales numbers very much since diesel accounted for only 15 percent of global figures. With consumer desire moving away from the fuel source, this is an understandable decision.
To further follow market trends, Porsche has made a significant effort towards the electrification of their vehicles. They already off a plug-in hybrid option for the Cayenne and Panamera, and will be offering a 911 soon as well. Not to mention their first fully electric vehicle, the Mission E, will be releasing next year.
The only surprising thing about this decision is how soon they followed through with it. We expected something like this come to the end of the 'teens, but not this quickly. I hope you're into electric cars.
