Porsche had taken the crown at the Nürburgring with the 2018 911 GT2 RS. Though this isn't the end of Porsche's plan. They plan to set another lap record with a Panamera Sport Turismo.
This record was for best lap time around the Nürburgring with a trailer attached to the vehicle. Not an empty trailer either, but one with a vintage Porsche diesel tractor inside. While this may not have been as prestigious of a title, Porsche was determined to claim it for their own nonetheless. They clocked in at 12 minutes and 6 seconds, and a top speed of 112 miles per hour. That's a pretty impressive haul.
The track is about 13 miles long. The 911 GT2 RS finished with a time of 6:47.3, about 5 seconds less than the Lamborghini Huracán Performante that held the previous record. The GT2 RS also claimed the fastest rear wheel drive record in the same race, besting the Dodge Viper ACR with their time of 7:01.3.
It's a safe assumption that the other manufacturers won't be jumping the gun to beat this record, but I'm always excited to see their efforts.
