There have been rumors since November about Porsche developing a plug-in hybrid. Now the rumors have been confirmed by the CEO of Porsche himself.

Oliver Blume, Porsche CEO, made a statement that a plug-in hybrid 911 is currently in development and will be released to the public when the next generation of the 911 gets its mid-cycle refresh. Since the next 911 is due out around 2019, then we can expect the plug-in hybrid variation to become available sometime around 2023.

Blume clarifies that while it hasn't been made formally official, he believes in the continuation of the project. He hopes to achieve a 40-mile range on pure electric, considering the advancing technology of modern car batteries

It's hard to get a more solid confirmation than that, especially from the CEO. While a Porsche hybrid isn't something that has been particularly popular, the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid has been a pretty impressive vehicle.

That said, Porsche doesn't intend to cut back on its regular 911 lineup. So those not interested in a hybrid 911 can still get a hold of a standard one as they desire.
