It was nearly three years ago when Porsche announced that the Mission E electric sedan concept would be moving into production. With how little we heard about the vehicle in the following three years, we figured the project was put on the backburner. Surprise, the automaker now announced a production timeline of 2019.

At last, we learn more about the Mission E, now known as the Taycan. It will debut in 2019 with deliveries starting later that year. Depending on the package you choose, it's capable of over 600 horsepower and a 300-mile average range. It's capable of reaching 62 mph in less than 3.5 seconds and a total 124 mph in only 12 seconds.

The Taycan will have four magnet synchronous motors, one at each axle. We've seen the same motors in the 919 Evo, which rocked the house at the Nürburgring. It's by no means a weak powertrain. It's capable of high-performance action thanks to a dynamic cooling system required to keep the lithium-ion battery chill.

The electric vehicle will also come with an 800-volt electrical system. Owners can charge their vehicles up to 80% charge in only 15 minutes at suitable charging stations. It also lightens the car up, thanks to the thinner cables used.

While unconfirmed, the car is expected to have an automatic transmission. It is electric after all. It will also provide all-wheel-drive, as implied by the four motors. There may be a rear-wheel-drive option, though that remains unsaid.
