Tesla may be leading the electric vehicle innovation right now, but Porsche is making an effort to be right behind them. Their first battery-electric car, the production version of the Mission E, will utilize 800-volt "Turbo Charging" stations to rival that of Tesla's supercharging network.

Head of Porsche's electrics and electronics development division Uwe Michaels discussed in an interview on Tuesday about how Porsche is looking to "pioneer new charging infrastructure." Porsche is investing greatly into what they are calling their Turbo Charing network because, according to Michaels, Porche owners want fast charging. The goal for these stations is to provide up to 350 kilowatts to deliver 800 volts of electricity. This is a significant bump up from current DC charging stations.

On a more chivalrous note, Porsche plans to share the network with other CCS-enabled cars, which consists of all American and German made electric vehicles, save for Tesla. They could have made it a proprietary system, so their willingness to do something this expensive for the betterment of nearly all is fairly generous of them.

The production Mission E should launch in 2019 as a 2020 model year vehicle.
