This recall is for models with column shifters. When exposed to high temperatures for extended periods of time, the brake transmission shift interlock may not work properly. This can cause the vehicle to leave the park position when the driver is not depressing the brake pedal, or when the key is not in the ignition.
The vehicles being recalled are as follows.
- 2010-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups
- 2011-2017 Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 chassis cabs
- 2016-2017 Ram 3500 chassis cabs with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of less than 10,000 pounds
- 2009-2017 Ram 1500 pickups
FCA will fix the BTSI and its functions. Affected customers will be informed as to when they can bring their vehicles into dealerships for service. For now, the FCA recommends using the handbrake when parking as an additional precaution.
Fiat Chrysler estimates a total of 1.48 million trucks in the US, 249,520 vehicles in Canada and 42,747 in Mexico that may be affected, and require a recall.
