Self-driving cars are the latest market trend. It's an opportunity to be lazy, how doesn't love that? As a result, Everyone and their mother have been dipping into the race. And now, that includes Volkswagen.

The Volkswagen Group have been one of the few companies that haven't really gotten into autonomous technology. Though now they're on the hunt for subsidiaries to help them get started. Aurora Innovation, a self-driving car company in California, was one of the places Volkswagen went to.

Bloomberg reports that the automaker offered to purchase the company, though Aurora declined in order to maintain independence. The two companies will work together, however, as they help them develop a production self-driving car. The partnership was announced at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show.

VW attempting to purchase the company shows that the automaker is looking to make greater investments toward autonomous technology. With any luck, they'll have a production-ready self-driving car by 2022, maybe it'll even look like their concept design, pictured above.
