According to inside sources, Nissan has a great interest in keeping the Z an active part of the automaker's brand. This primarily indicates a new model design, but they also have plans to redesign the vehicle to meet modern safety standards.
To further add to this, Nissan Motor Company's chief planning officer Philippe Klein had this to say.
"The Z is a difficult market...it is rather shrinking worldwide. But we still believe there is a place for the Z and want to keep it alive, and that's what we're working on."
It's no secret that the Z has been put on the back burner these last few years. The current model is about 9 years old now, and the vehicles like the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro have surpassed the vehicle in almost every modern sense.
Refreshing the Z is a fairly open-ended idea right now. While a new model is an obvious idea, Nissan is also considering a completely new vehicle to act as a predecessor instead, according to Klein.
"For the long term, there are other considerations. If we do a completely new vehicle what should it be to keep the passion alive? And we're working very seriously on this—how we can keep the Z alive and refreshing and what would be the next generation?"
It's not clear just yet as to what Nissan will do with the Z, but we can safely say that something will happen with the line.
