We're finally reaching the point where the advancement of vehicle technology is becoming a bit scary. Nissan is developing a system for reading your thoughts.

The carmaker recently announced a new project called Brain-to-Vehicle, or B2V. This system will read the driver's brain waves. Nissan claims that this will benefit hand driven cars and self-driving cars alike.

One idea for B2V is that when the driver goes to make an action (turning, accelerating, etc.), the driver's brain generates a signal. When the car detects this signal, it can assist in this process, for smoother and easier driving. Nissan reports a 0.2-0.5 second faster reaction time from drivers on this system.

Self-driving vehicles could detect the passenger's mood and adjust the driving style and cabin comfort accordingly.

The B2V process works by reading the brain wave activity of the passenger via a headband. Artificial Intelligence then analyzes the information, as well as any environmental information, and calculates a conclusion accordingly.

Nissan will be showing the B2V system off at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on January 9. Call me cynical, but I've read enough sci-fi novels to know when my car is going to revolt and kill me. Or maybe it will inject advertisements directly into my brain, who knows?
