Nissan has illuminated our mornings with their most recent announcement, the GT-R50. This prototype sports car is in commemoration of the GT-R's 50th anniversary, and it's making its debut next month.

Based on the 2018 Nissan GT-R Nismo, the GT-R50 has a 3.8-liter V-6 engine under the hood pushing 710 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque. It also features a dual-clutch six-speed transmission.

Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan senior VP for global design, spoke about the new vehicle in a statement.

"How often do you get to ask, 'What if we created a GT-R without limits,' and then actually get to build it? This is a rare window in time when two big moments intersect: 50 years of Italdesign shaping the automotive world and 50 years of Nissan generating excitement through our iconic GT-R. So to celebrate this convergence, Nissan and Italdesign created this custom GT-R to mark 50 years of engineering leadership."

More effort was made than a simple engine upgrade. The prototype also has "optimized twin high-flow, large-diameter GT3 competition-spec turbochargers and larger intercoolers; heavy-duty crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods, and bearings; high-flow piston oil jets; revised camshaft profiles; higher-flow fuel injectors; and optimized ignition, intake, and exhaust systems."

Visually speaking, you'll see an Energetic Sigma Gold grille and some swanky mirror covers (I don't think it's real gold). It illuminates the road with a pair of LED headlights, which should be expected at this point.

The rear replaces the round taillights with thin rings of light. The Wing above them is large and adjustable. All of this is held up by a revised suspension with an adjustable damping system. The custom 21-inch wheels have Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires with Brembo six-piston brakes up front and four-piston brakes in the back.
