The cyclist, Reddit user Engineer_Life, was waiting at an intersection in Plano Texas. When the light turns green and the vehicles proceed, the black SUV in front of him is struck by a silver car. The SUV rolls over, and the red-light-runner continues forward, pushing into the motorcycle. The force flings Engineer_Life off his bike and along the road.
With a short walk and a few expletives, Engineer_Life was unharmed. No one was taken away in an ambulance.
"So I definitely don't remember exactly what happened, but a mixture of me grabbing on to the bottom of the car and getting pushed forward after the hit allowed me to initially slide enough to avoid getting crushed.
. . .
But I also was doing some sort of run shuffle while sliding sideways as well, not sure how to describe that lol but I know I saw myself getting crushed if I didn't keep going forward and my legs responded."
Thanks to the side guards, his bike was otherwise unharmed. He even remarks on riding it home afterward. This video is an excellent example of how unpredictable the road can be, and why that danger is amplified when you're riding a bike.
Can I also say, that is some amazing quality footage? 1080p and 60 frames per second. It looks great.
