It's been 80 years since Mercedes-Benz set the world record for the fastest land-speed vehicle on a public road with the W125 Silver Arrow racer. It was only until last year was the record broken by the Agera RS by Koenigsegg. All the same, Mercedes has decided to pay homage to their tremendous achievement.
It's called the Aesthetics Progressive Luxury concept, and it isn't a car. This tribute is in the form of a sculpture. Designed with the W125's form in mind, the sculpture brings the vehicle into the modern age, which the company intends to use toward their EQ brand of electric vehicles. Though this particular model has a bit of artistic flair to it, of course.
In order to preserve the racer's purpose, the designers pressed the concept into the ground. This highlights the muscular wheel arches prevalent in the W125 Silver Arrow.
Some room was left for symbolism, as well. Mercedes describes the cubic dissolve toward the rear "as if the resulting surface segments were captured by an imaginary air stream and carried away."
