Not every custom car has to be about heritage, power, or class. Sometimes they can be silly. We save fair evidence of this with the 70+ MPH barbie kart. The Woodward Dream Cruise understands this, and a wide variety of unique vehicles have made their way to the event to let their real freak flag fly.

In this case, I'm talking about the Upside-down Van. As the name implies, this vehicle rides with its wheels to the sky. Having appeared at the event in previous years, it's gathered a reputation for its simply bizarre look. And since it's always on the move, no one has gotten a close enough look at it to figure out just how they did it.

The current speculation is that a truck or van ladder frame was stripped away, allowing a hollow shell to be welded to the body. Driving "backward," the driver can see through two holes cut through the base of the rear's barn doors. The "wheels" even spin as the vehicle drives. This is presumably achieved through some solid mechanical work, mounting multiple axles to the roof and wielding their differentials. How they connected to the possible starter motors and pinion yokes remain uncertain.

This only leaves two questions: is it street legal, and where can I get one?
