American McLaren F1 owners no longer need to ship their vehicles to the U.K. for servicing. McLaren has opened up a service facility in Philadelphia. This is the first location outside of McLaren Special Operations authorized to work on the F1 road car.

The facility will be unrelated to the Philadelphia McLaren Retail Shop and will be located in a discreet location for customer privacy. Technicians at the service location will be MSO-trained and capable of performing everything from regular maintenance to major renovations. Custom work can also be done for their Heritage collection, such as the SLR, P1, and 650S.

Full service comes with a mandatory vehicle shakedown, which tests your vehicle on a high speed, closed test track.

Tony Joseph, McLaren North America President had this to say:

“For North American owners, when you add up the time the actual service takes, with transport time to and from the U.K.—it equals a lot of time away from their vehicle. Having a service center in North America will allow us to drastically cut back on transport time and gives us an authorized facility that prioritizes North American F1s and owners.”

There are plans for an additional Service Center being built on the West Coast at some future point. You'll have to settle for Philly until then. That's still much better than sending it across the ocean, at least.
