When I heard that you could have someone do your grocery shopping for you, I wasn't surprised. When I heard you could have someone deliver food to you, it just made sense. Though now, Kroger has exceeded my expectations with autonomous grocery deliveries.

In partnership with Nuro, a Silicon Valley robotics company, the supermarket chain announced plans to launch a series of self-driving grocery delivering test cars. Starting with unnamed tests markets in the fall, this will be the first deployment of a Nuro vehicle.

The vehicular pods will rely on a series of standard self-driving technologies, such as lidar, radar, and cameras. Once they reach their destination, customers can access their groceries via separated locking sections, unlocked with their smartphones. It remains unconfirmed how much this service will cost, but Yael Cosset, Kroger's chief digital officer, said it will be a "fair price."
