A few months back, we saw an electric variant of the Kia Niro crossover. At the time, it was only a concept vehicle. Now the automaker has returned to show off the production Niro EV before its official debut at the Paris Motor Show later this year.

The specific instance is the International Electric Vehicle Expo in Jeju, Korea. This gave us a chance to compare the production version to its concept. Unfortunately, very little was kept in from the concept. The nose kept little of the attractiveness seen before. The previous LED piping for headlights, the production comes with traditional lights.

While the cosmetics changed, most of the underlying hardware hasnt. It will still feature the 64-kilowatt-hour lithium-polymer battery pack as the concept, which will offer a 280-mile range. A 39.2-kWh battery pack will also be available. The battery options are the only powertrain specs released by Kia at this time. We will likely learn more about that when it debuts proper at the Paris Auto Show. The concept had a 150-kW electric motor, which pushes out around 201-hp, so, for now, we're assuming the production has the same.

The Kia Niro EV will go on sale in Korea later this year and will release to other markets not long after. While the States could be one of these markets, Kia has made no confirmation. Time will tell.
