It's easy to get caught up in the idea that you have to be incredibly wealthy make a name for yourself with fame and fast cars. Jim Lindsay, a retired farmer, reminds us that it can be anyone.

Last September, Lindsay visited Bonneville Salt Flats in southwest Utah. Here he was able to drive his custom black race car sporting a modified 1950 Mercury flathead engine. While he only physically came home with a bright red hat, his time there qualified him to be a part of the exclusive Bonneville 200 MPH Club.

Jim Lindsay spoke about his experience.

“There are maybe 600 people in the world who have qualified for this since 1949, and about 140 of them are dead. Believe me, word got around and people were coming up, congratulating me. It isn’t just running 200 miles per hour. You have to have set a record in your car’s class before you can even begin to qualify, and that’s not easy to do.”

Lindsay has done just that previously at El Mirage, California. He needed to beat a speed of 215 in order to set a record. Like all records, you need to do it twice. His first run he hit over 220mph. On the second run, he managed 215.8, giving him an official average of 218.327.

Jim Lindsay has our respect. He has worked towards achieving something incredible, and he deserves all of the glory that comes with this achievement.
