Women hide your husbands, because theirs a new Jaguar in town. Or, there will be, at least. The automaker is planning to expand their lineup, and it very well might be an SUV.

According to reports, Jaguar is working on a J-Pace SUV to compete with other midsize luxury SUVs like the Porsche Cayenne and Maserati Levante.

Not much is known about the SUV just yet. It's said to be coming in 2021 as a 2022 model, alongside the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport from sister brand Land Rover. We can expect third-row seating, and various luxurious amenities to help establish itself as a road vehicle, instead of an off-roader.

Given the time frame, we can expect electrification as well. With Land Rover planning to go fully electric beyond 2020, and with states like California banning gasoline vehicles by 2025, a hybrid option seems to be more likely than not.

The baby brother, the F-Pace, will also be receiving a mid-cycle update next year, including a plug-in hybrid option as a part of that. Jaguar also has plans to launch a redesigned XJ with an electric powertrain next year.

The idea of a Jaguar SUV sounds silly, at first. But as long as they maintain the quality the brand is known for, then I'm fully welcome to the idea. The F-Pace became the automaker's best seller its first year on the market, outselling sedans like the XE and XF. The twenty-teens are certainly the rise of the SUV and crossover, isn't it?
