As we continue to strive towards self-driving cars, mankind develops newer and more confusing technology to make it happen. Imagine if you're car could know there was a car around the corner, even if you cant see them. This is one such skill that Jaguar Land Rover is aiming for.
This doesn't have to be for autonomy, either. Countless times have I found myself wishing I could see around an obnoxiously placed building or tree.
The automaker announced on Friday that it's leading a project called Autoplex, it wants to create their own car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure communications. Much like Fords talking car program, this will allow vehicles to communicate, providing information to each other digitally. The information would be transferred over a 5G network in order to support the bandwidth needed.
Jaguar Land Rover started testing their self-driving on public UK roads last year. Like everyone else, the brand is developing both full and partially autonomous vehicles. The automaker also in March entered a deal to supply Waymo with up to 20,000 Jaguar I-Pace electric SUVs for the companies future endeavours.
