The electric market may be getting a little more competitive. Hyundai has announced their pricing for the 2019 Kona Electric, and it beats out the others.

Priced at $36,450 for the base model, the Kona Electric is $1,045 cheaper than its closest competitor, the Chevrolet Bolt EV. This isn't including the $7,500 tax credit and any state incentives (like California's CVRP rebate of $2,500). It's also a solid $10,000 less than the Telsa Model 3.

The fully electric vehicle has an EPA-rating for 258 miles on a full charge from its 64-kW-hr lithium-ion battery. It comes with a Level 2 charger, allowing for a full charge in approximately 9 hours and 35 minutes. If you use a Level 3 quick charger, the Kona can achieve a full charge in only 54 to 75 minutes.

The Kona EV's electric motor powertrain pushes out 201 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. the standard edition comes with Hyundai's Smart Sense active safety suite, heated front seats, cloth upholstery, a 7.0-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, keyless entry and start, two USB ports, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Additional features, such as wireless phone charging, LED headlights, and parking sensors are available for other models.

I'm not in the market for a new car right now. But I'm glad to see electrics become a more viable option.
