Elon Musk's most recent stunt was to launch his Tesla Roadster into space when testing the Falcon Heavy rocket. With Space Oddity playing on the radio, and an empty SpaceX suit in the driver's seat named Starman, the Roadster has been floating around in space since. Now that it's been a while, We wondered how Starman is doing.

Musk hoped that the Roadster would be set to rotate around the sun and pass by Mars. After launch, he announced that they didn't get things quite right, and it's likely to enter the asteroid belt. Though additional research suggests it might still stay within the belt, and not only pass Mars, but Earth again.

Words do little for visual learners, which is why we're lucky to have whereisroadster.com. This website tracks the current location of Starman and his space car, while also displaying some interesting statistic about how close/far it's moving from Mars and Earth, its total travel distance, and how many times Space Oddity has played so far.

Some people are wondering if Starman will crash back down to Earth eventually. Well according to researchers, the odds of the Roadster crashing down to our planet in the next 1 million years is a mild 6%. Evidence suggests that it may pass near Earth sometime in 2020, but it's not expected to fall back into our atmosphere.

As entertaining as it sounds to worry about cars falling from the sky, the Roadster would burn up entirely upon reentry, with at best 1 component remaining. So sleep easy knowing that you don't need to dig out a deep bunker home.
