While some people may not agree with the recent engine options, but one thing is for sure, turbocharged engines are fairly easy to tune. This means that Hondata is able to push your Honda Civic Type-R to over 306 hp for less than $700.
The California-based tuner has grown increasingly popular over the last few years. Their efforts making an accord out-perform a Civic Type-R has caught many peoples' eyes. Now they're looking to improve the Type-R, itself.
Their tuned Type-R will add on 47 hp and 72 lb-ft of torque when on 93-octane fuel. If you can only use 91-octane, then it will be 33hp and 39 lb-feet of torque. Though the process isn't too easy. The ECU needs to be removed and sent to Hondata for jailbreaking. While not that hard of a task, it's inconvenient all the same.
Another issue is with emissions compliance. The tuning doesn't meet both EPA and CARB requirements. While an option that does may be presented later, it isn't currently available. This is important to keep in mind if you drive it on public roads often.
All things considered, its an impressive modification for a fair price.
