The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is already a potent SUV pushing 707 horsepower. But like all vehicles, there's room for improvement. Hennessey has a good eye for making such improvements. So they've created the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk HPE1000.
Just how much more powerful is the HPE1000? Hennessey claims that the modified vehicle is capable of over 1,000 horsepower. Even with its big body, this makes it capable of a 0 to 60 time of only 2.7 seconds.
In this video, we see the HPE1000 make the sprint on a drag strip. When not seduced by the beautiful tones of a modified engine, we noticed that launch controls are engaged as the brake and throttle pedals are firmly pressed. The full quarter-mile is traversed in just 10.7 seconds while the HPE1000 Trackhawk hits 132 mph at the most.
In order to achieve such a power boost, Hennessey used a Hellcat 6.2-liter V-8 engine paired with fresh headers and retuned engine management software, while they also replaced the standard blower with a 4.5-liter supercharger. This achieves exactly 1,012 horsepower in the end.
The team disabled all-wheel drive in order to push power toward the rear wheels. From here they saw 823 hp, showing a heavy loss from the drivetrain cranks. Even so, this is still rather impressive.
