If patent drawings are to be believed, Cadillac might very well be developing a new coupe styling based on the Escala concept we saw two years ago.
First discovered by Cadillac Society, the United States Patent and Trademark Office recently added a patent drawing of a coupe rather similar to the Escala concept. You can see the resemblance in the thin headlights, contoured hood, arrow taillights and sculpted trunk lids. We also noticed thin stalks for side-view mirrors. This may indicate camera replacements, which still aren't legal in the United States.
The patent itself was filed by General Motors in February of last year. There's a fair likely hood that it depicts another concept model, instead of a production car. GM designer Jaehoon Lee was added in the patent info.
Current speculation is that this is one of the 20 electric vehicles GM intends to launch by 2023. Though with visible exhaust tips in the rear, the possibility of a combustion or hybrid vehicle remains. They may also have an electric and combustion option of the same vehicle.
If the Ciel and Elmiraj have taught us anything, it's that Cadillac has a history of unveiling impressive concepts that never grow to fruition. So we remain cautious toward this patent's future.
