New headlight technology isn't the only thing making its way into popular automotive culture. Korea will be getting a new kind of dashboard here soon, one that's three dimensions.
Korean automaker Genesis has recently announced a new feature of their G70 sedan models, which launches next year. It's a 12.3-inch screen in place of the traditional dashboard. What makes the digital dashboard stand out from others is the "realistic 3D imagery." We aren't talking about 3D models on a flat screen; the vehicle tracks the driver's eye position, and dynamically adjusts the stereoscopic view to give the illusion of depth.
Not sure what we mean? Here's a video of the same idea, but applied using the iPhone's facial tracking function. See how the phone appears to go deeper than it really is?
Don't worry, you don't HAVE to use this feature if you don't want to. The screen comes with the option to revert back to regular 2D imagery. Regardless of what mode you pick, you can customize what displays on the screen. This ranges from lap timers to engine revs. You will also be able to swap between different driving "modes," each with their own display settings.
You'll be able to purchase a G70 in the United States as a 2019 model for $35,895. While the cool 3D thing will only be available in Korea, we may see it come stateside in a 2020 model.
