Hey Americans, want another crossover SUV? Too bad, Ford is teasing another one. The automaker has confirmed the development of a new subcompact crossover SUV, dubbed the Puma.
With a formal reveal planned for later this year, Ford released a teaser image for the time being. Shrouded in lasers, the body appears to be similar to that of the Fiesta while the headlight shapes remind us more of the Ford GT.
Not seen in the teaser image is some powertrain specs, provided by Ford. The Puma is expected to have a hybrid powertrain, running a 1.0-liter turbocharged inline-3 engine with the help of a belt-driven motor generator. Combined, the Puma will push around 153 horsepower. The motor generator will draw electric power from kinetic motions like braking and coasting. The energy generated is then saved into a battery and used to aid the engine during high load moments.
Production will be handled at the Craiova, Romania, plant, the same location that the Ecosport is built. The Puma isn't a replacement for the model, mind you, but as a complement to each other.
If the Puma makes it to the United States, we can expect it as a 2020 or 2021 model. Who knows, maybe the Honda HR-V has some competition here soon.
