Ford has supported the Gathering, an Experimental Aircraft Association event, for 20 years now. Taking place in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, it's the organization's largest fundraising event. Each year, Ford develops some fascinating vehicles for auction. This year, they've modified a Mustang GT in tribute to the Eagle Squadron of the Royal Air Force and their efforts in the second world war.
The car was built with help by RTR Vehicles, which specializes in dealer-installed Mustang option packages based on Japanese drift culture and European style. Aside from clear graphical homage, the Mustang will also feature a modified 5.0-liter V-8 pushing out 700 horsepower. The Eagle Squadron Mustang GT also features the RTR wide-body kit and a Tactical Performance suspension package.
The vehicle body is a strong nod toward the Spitfire fighter plane, common in WWII. The same planes will be flying at the Goodwood festival that the Mustang will be first presented. After this, it will be transported to the Gathering for auction. The proceeds will go to the EAA’s youth education programs. The bidding winner will also be awarded an all-inclusive package for two to attend the 2018 Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit.
It's a wonderfully designed car, for a wonderfully wholesome reason.
