One thing babies tend to love is car rides. They soothed by the noises and the gentle motion of the car, as it reminds them of being in the womb and often puts them right to sleep. Parents have a hard enough time waking up at 3 in the morning to soothe their sleeping child, let alone take them for an early morning drive around the block to put them back to sleep.

Well Ford has decided to help parents out a little bit. With a very interesting new invention, you may never have to take your newborn for a late night or early morning car ride again.

The Max Motor Dreams resembles a designer bassinet with a large Ford logo, but it does much more than hold a sleeping baby. The crib has a speaker that’s located directly below the baby and plays quiet engine sounds. The entire device moves side to side slowly, imitating the movement of a vehicle in motion, and the entire rim of the crib is lined with LED lights that simulate the passing of streetlights at night.

The white noise produced by the speaker mixed with the repetitive side-to-side motion reminds children of being inside the womb. It acts as a comfortable place for the baby to sleep while simulating the experiences the newborn had grown accustomed to when still inside the mother. The Max is designed very similarly to the Snoo, which is another smart crib that was released by Yves Behar.

While this idea is really great and has scientific evidence to back up its success, the crib is not currently available to the public. The contraption was created to be a part of an ad campaign to promote Ford’s new line of Max cars. Ford is currently holding a raffle for the crib and is considering mass producing the bassinet for the public if the demand for it is high enough.

The price is completely unknown at this point, but it will probably be quite expensive. The Snoo, for example, is currently selling for $1,600 dollars and essentially does exactly what Ford’s model will do. A price above one thousand dollars is to be expected, but can you really put a price tag on all that extra sleep you’ll be getting?

We are going to continue to track this story and see if we’re going to be getting a crib built Ford tough in the near future. I think this could be a great opportunity for Ford and perhaps other car companies will start to follow suit and produce their own models as well.
