In a recent announcement, Fiat Chrysler is recalling 4.8 million vehicles in the United States because of a compromisable cruise control function. The company suggests that drivers of the affected vehicles avoid using cruise control until they have their vehicles' software upgraded.

The problem is with the electrical network, which will short curcuit when the vehicle is accelerating in cruise control mode. Should this occur, drivers will be unable to cancel cruise control. Drivers can still depress the brake pedal to overide the acceleration from the cruise control system. Shifting into neutral, and braking, will also stop the vehicle. Upon being placed in park, the cruise control will disable. No accidents or injuries have been reported relating to this issue at this time.
