Ferrari once claimed that they would be the first to have an electric supercar on the market. Now it seems that we have a good five years before we'll see that happen, if even then.
Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne recently stated that the auto company will not be launching an electric car of any kind until after their most recent five-year plan has completed. This was right after the chairman had left the company's annual meeting this month. The five-year plan itself will be announced this September, according to sources.
With Tesla planning to launch their second generation Roadster in 2020, and Italian design house Pininfarina not far behind, it's safe to assume that Ferrari won't be the first to have a market electric supercar after all. We also saw Rimac's second-gen C_Two at March's Geneva Auto Show.
For now, Ferrari is focusing on plug-in hybrid technology. They're currently working on a plug-in hybrid powertrain that will debut in an unspecified model next year. It'll make its way into various existing models, including an upcoming SUV.
